The Organising Committee of the 50th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships/Congress headed by President Sonam Tobgay Dorji and members of the Bhutan Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation together with the co-operation of the Bhutan Olympic Committee wishes to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all Asian National Federations members of the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (ABBF) to participate in this prestigious continental event in Thimphu, Kingdom of Bhutan from 2nd to 8th September 2016.
Datuk Paul Chua, Secretary-General of the ABBF and WBPF together with Ms. Christina Y. Kam, Chairman of the ABBF Judges Committee and Executive Director of WBPF did an on-site inspection tour to see venue, hotels and others facilities accompanied by President Sonam Tobgay Dorji and his team of officials. Datuk Paul Chua remarked: " I am really impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the people of Bhutan in Thimpu. They seem genuinely excited by the prospect of hosting the 50th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships, and I am very confident that this will be one of the greatest and memorable event.
Brief Description of Bhutan
Bhutan is a tiny and remote kingdom nestling in the Himalayas between its powerful neighbours, India and China. Almost completely cut off for centuries, it has tried to let in some aspects of the outside world while fiercely guarding its ancient traditions. The Bhutanese name for Bhutan, Druk Yul, means "Land of the Thunder Dragon" and it only began to open up to outsiders in the 1970s. The remote Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan is well known for it's untouched wilderness, rich Buddhist culture and a history steeped in mystic and legend. Cultural journey encompasses all that Bhutan has to offer taking in the 'must see' highlights of both western and central Bhutan. The picturesque Paro Valley, home to the Tigers Nest (Taktsang) monastery, before you drive across the dramatic Dochu La into central Bhutan, to Bumthang. It is widely regarded that Bhutanese Buddhism first took hold here and the legacies are the many ancient and magnificent monasteries in and around the area. Royal Institute of Management and Multi-purpose Hall which has a seating capacity of 3000 people and has dressing rooms for male and female athletes. P.A system and lightings will be provided to meet our requirements. It is a brand new hall and fully air-conditioned.
